Accelerated Flight Training

Michiana Aviation will help you achieve your goals through our accelerated flight training programs, powered by expert, full-time instruction.  We offer flat-rate instructor pricing and will provide all the flight instruction you need at that price until you have your certificate.

How it works
The courses we offer are listed below, with pricing for instruction and course prerequisites identified.  As soon as you schedule your start date, we email you an information packet that includes the outline of your course, the list of prerequisites, any materials you may need to bring, and information regarding lodging and transportation while in South Bend.  You arrive on your scheduled start date, and we get started on your training and continue working with you until you have completed the course.  Please note that training toward the knowledge test is not included; however, we will provide training for a knowledge test endorsement for additional cost if needed.

Private Pilot Course (Approximately 3 ½ to 5 weeks)
Rates
Instruction fee: $2650
Ground course fee:  $250 (optional – you will not need the ground course if you have completed the knowledge test)
Aircraft rental additional – Cessna 172 rental is $125 per hour Hobbs time; block rates are also available.
Training materials:  Approximately $200, depending on current market rates.  Headset will be provided at no extra charge.

Commercial Pilot Course (Five to Six days)
Rates
Instruction fee:  $850 without VFR cross-countries
                        $1090 if you need to complete the commercial VFR cross-countries [see 61.129 (3) (iii) and (iv) for details on VFR cross-country training]
Ground course fee:  $250 if needed
Aircraft rental:  $150 per hour tach time plus sales tax for Piper Arrow.  You should expect to finish with just over 10 hours tach time, including the practical test.

Course Prerequisites:  Third class medical and a Private Pilot certificate.  Refer to Part 61.129 (3) of the regulations for experience requirements.  You do not need to arrive with any complex time, and you should have close to 240 hours total time.  Call any time with your questions regarding time requirements.

Instrument Rating Course (Ten to Twelve days)
Rates:
Instruction Fee:  $2350
Ground Course Fee:  $250 if needed
Aircraft rental additional

Course prerequisites:  Private pilot certificate with 40 hours cross-country pilot in command or commercial pilot certificate.  We recommend completion of the instrument pilot knowledge test.

Flight Instructor Course  (Six to Eight days)
Rates:
Instruction Fee:  $1825
Ground Course Fees:  $150 for FOI; $200 for CFI-A
Aircraft Rental:  Expect to fly the Arrow for eight to nine hours tach, including the checkride

Course prerequisites:  ATP or commercial pilot with instrument rating.  Third class medical.  Completion of both knowledge tests prior to your arrival will eliminate the need for the ground courses.

A CFI-I course is also available.  Call for further information.
